towards Walnut Grove Road and destroyed a building next to the
church. The tornado then continued northeast and damaged dozens of
homes in a neighborhood off of Purple Heart Highway. The tornado
then began to go through a heavily wooded neighborhood where
dozens of mobile and manufactured homes were destroyed. This is
where the 3 fatalities occurred. The tornado crossed into another
neighborhood causing heavy damage in and near Eva Drive. Several
houses shifted off their foundations here that were only attached
with straight nails but still caused EF-2/120mph damage. The
tornado then crossed Highway 41 and struck several commercial
businesses including a vacant fast food restaurant and strip mall
where only the interior remained. At this point; the tornado
strengthened to EF-3/140mph. Just east of Highway 41, another
neighborhood was struck with several homes sustaining significant
damage. As the tornado continued its northeast track, it then
strengthened to EF-3/150mph, destroying four two story brick and
vinyl siding homes on Henry PIace Blvd. Debris was blown across

sustained roof damage. As the tornado crossed Peachers Mill Road,
two dozen brand new two story brick apartment homes were majorly
damaged with roofs missing on at least a dozen of these
structures. Dozens more houses were damaged off of Needmore Road
with significant roof damage. The tornado crossed Highway 236 and
moved through another neighborhood, damaging more homes in the
process as it maintained EF-2 intensity. It crossed I-24 where
numerous cedar trees were uprooted. The tornado then continued
into the Tylertown community where 3 different neighborhoods dealt
with at least EF-1 damage mostly to roofs and vinyl siding before
the tornado continued into Todd County, Kentucky. Nearly 1000

10:15 PM - Saw a report of a power line down near Merchant's Bank in Fairview. Radarscope said that came from amateur radio.
10:17 - But for the most part, storms are no longer producing damage, just a lot of rain and lightning, sometimes gusty winds and small hail.
10:19 - Madison, Morgan, Winston, Marion, and Lamar Counties have now been cleared from the tornado watch. Severe weather threat there and points North and West is over.
10:34 - Emergency management reports a tree down at Scottsboro, looks like it happened about an hour ago. Storms with torrential rainfall and gusty winds, good bit of lightning, continue to move through Northeast Alabama now. But at the moment, all of it is staying under severe limits still. Technically the tornado watch goes until 2 AM.

Tornado Watch Extended East
We do have a possible tornado up around Tullahoma.
But overall the storms in our vicinity are staying better behaved. This is a reminder that the night is not over. Those tan boxes are storms that are under severe limits but packing enough of a punch to require statements to be issued on them.
Of course if you are in the tornado warning in Tennessee, take your tornado precautions and stay in that safe place until this is over.
8:07 PM - Colbert and Lauderdale Counties are now clear from the Tornado Watch.
8:23 - Now Lawrence and Giles Counties in Tennessee have been cleared from the Tornado Watch. It is a little out of our neighborhood, but . . . well nevermind, they have cancelled the Tornado Warning in Coffee County, Tennessee, regardless of what the above graphic shows. Last I read, they have replaced it with a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. So damaging winds and maybe some hail are still possible.
8:36 - Special Weather Statements up around Huntsville and also down around Jasper. Hail from pea to nickel size and winds up to 30, 40, even 50-mile per hour gusts are possible, even though these storms are not thought to be severe at this point.
That storm that earlier produced a possible tornado in Coffee County TN has a Severe Thunderstorm Warning now.
8:39 - And now Moulton . . .
Actually I made a mistake, not Huntsville, the other strong storm was more up from Hazel Green up to Fayetteville.
8:51 - Another stronger storm coming at Morgan City.
8:56 - Several of these thunderstorms are producing a lot of cloud-to-ground lightning, some pretty heavy rain, gusty winds, and even some small hail. But for the moment, everything appears to be staying under severe limits. The watch goes until Midnight for most, 2 AM for a few others further East.
9:09 PM - And now a special weather statement that does include Huntsville. Basically just stay inside and away from windows and electrical stuff for these storms, and you should be fine. Just common sense thunderstorm safety.
Glad we didn't have the situation they did in North Nashville, Hendersonville, Gallation, and I think also Springfield earlier today. There were a lot of variables at play, and it could have happened somewhere closer to home if a few things had evolved just a little differently. Frankly feeling sad for the people who did get the worst of this system. For those people, this definitely overperformed.
9:15 - All we've got now is a messy line of thunderstorms that are staying under severe limits. This is really good for our drought we're coming out of.
9:28 - Franklin County AL has also now been cleared from the tornado watch. The overall severe weather threat is diminishing.
9:35 - The severe threat is shifting more into Northeast Alabama. Even there, the risk is low.
9:44 - We do have a flash flood warning now for Bledsoe, Marion, and Sequatchie Counties in Tennessee. The other boxes you see are just special weather statements for storms that are on the strong side but under severe limits.
9:48 - All right the Tornado Watch is being cleared out more. The only counties that border us in TN still under the watch are Franklin and Marion.
On the Alabama side, Madison, Jackson, Morgan, Cullman, points East, back down to Walker and even back to Marion County are still under it. But Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, and Limestone Counties in North Alabama have been cleared from the watch now.
