Severe T'Storm Warning

This storm is capable of 1.5 inch hail and also has a low risk of spinning up a tornado. It is a supercell thunderstorm at severe limits including the chance to produce damaging wind gusts.

4:20 PM - Please note that we also have a storm moving into the South part of Nashville that is capable of baseball sized hail and 70 mph wind gusts. It has tried to produce a tornado at times, but for now, the hail looks like the main thing. I'd take cover for it anyway.

Actually let me correct that: It's more an issue for Spring Hill, Franklin, and Brentwood. Sometimes it's good to double-check instead of listening to broadcast media. I think I'm changing the source of background chatter now . . .

4:25 - And if you'd like a quick science lesson, here is a useful one from NWS Birmingham.

4:27 - Going to focus on this storm coming into Cherokee since it's closest to home. Also because the hail is estimated to be up to 2 inches in diameter! As my Granny would have said, that'd knock a hole in your head. Seriously, you would not want to be caught without shelter in this. It could bust the glass out of a car. I speak from experience when it comes to bad hailstorms. They might not literally knock a hole in your head, but they can really be destructive.

4:30 - And things are really getting busy. New tornado warning in Tennessee including Lawrence County, a storm moving from about Napier toward Columbia, another supercell showing signs of tornadic rotation. So if in the path of a storm like this - remember - small room or hallway on lowest floor of a sturdy house or other strong building (get out of a mobile home) - as near the center of the building as you can be and away from any windows.

4:32 - Interestingly the Cherokee storm is in that hottest zone for extra large hail or a tornado over the next couple hours. It took a while for that new Mesoscale Discussion from SPC to load, but here it is.

Upgraded to Tornado Warning - starting new post for that.
