Special Weather Statement(s)

So that merger never happened, and I'm happy to say this storm system underperformed around here.

No such luck for Kentucky. Also from what I understand, St. Louis took a hard hit today. And there was one supercell that if I read correctly, sustained for about 500 miles, producing several tornadoes earlier today.

So we got things really easy compared to some of our neighbors with this thing.

4:43 AM - Some counties are being cleared from the Severe Thunderstorm Watch, and that includes Cullman. Will get a visual soon, but I believe the only counties remaining in North Alabama are Marshall and Dekalb. Walker probably hasn't been cleared yet because a severe thunderstorm warning still affects part of the county.

Here is the updated map.

So Winston, Walker, and Blount Counties are still under the watch for now. The line of storms is in Southeastern Walker County and moving into Blount/Jefferson.

4:46 - And the way these storms are moving, I'd give this watch another 2-3 hours tops even for Northeast Alabama. It'll probably be cancelled for those areas within the next hour or two.

There are no more severe storms behind this squall line. Although some strong gradient wind gusts are possible behind the storms.

4:51 - And Cullman County Emergency Management reports a tree down near the city of Cullman at the intersection of County Road 747 and County Road 730. From radar, time of damage is estimated to have been about 4:15 AM.

4:55 - Wuh-oh. Also from Cullman, we have emergency management reporting multiple trees down in the road blocking Spirit Life Church. So maybe we should have been included in the warning up farther North. It can be really tough to tell at night. I didn't take shelter, but I no longer have a big tree outside my place. A big limb fell from it during a summer storm a couple years ago. It nearly set the place on fire with a transformer, so they decided to cut the tree down. I miss it being here most of the time, but on nights like this, I don't.

5:22 AM - There appears to be a glitch with the SPC graphics for Tuesday. So I wouldn't read anything into it for now, whether we'll have any severe thunderstorms again or not. Planning to do a detailed forecast Saturday night and will evaluate it carefully then.

Now Walker, Winston, and counties to the West of there have been cleared from the watch.

5:26 - The storms are moving along. Blount, Marshall, Etowah, and Dekalb Counties are still technically under the watch.

5:27 - And they just cancelled the watch for Dekalb and Marshall Counties.

So I'm calling it all clear for North Alabama and calling it a night.
