The specific threat areas keep having to be adjusted. Winter storms are challenging to outline around here, because our experience in forecasting them is limited compared to parts of the country that deal with them more often.
One thing I'm glad the Birmingham office points out is that since the shorter-term models have continued to show evidence of some freezing rain being in the mix, we have to consider the possibility of sporadic tree damage and power outages in the region. That'd be most likely along and North of US-278 up to about the Alabama/Tennessee state line. (That's my own personal estimate.) Because the CAM's like the HRRR have persisted in showing a mixed mode of precipitation, you'll notice a lot of these advisories mention a potential for light ice accumulations along with whatever snow. And the timing has sped up a bit, so that within the next few hours, parts of Northwest Alabama could start seeing a wintry mix.
