Mesoscale Discussion (TN)

  Mesoscale Discussion 0723

NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

   1151 PM CDT Wed May 08 2024

Areas affected...parts of central and eastern Arkansas...the

Missouri Bootheel...a small part of northwestern Mississippi...and

   western and Middle Tennessee

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 213...

   Valid 090451Z - 090645Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 213 continues.

SUMMARY...Severe storms continue spreading eastward across Arkansas,

the Missouri Bootheel, and western Kentucky, and will affect

portions of Tennessee over the next couple of hours.  Along with

risk for locally damaging wind gusts and hail, a couple of tornadoes

   remain possible.

DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows a band of strong/locally severe

storms extending from central Arkansas east-northeastward into

western Kentucky, moving steadily eastward with time.  The storms

are moving through a favorably unstable airmass, where mixed-layer

CAPE values remain in the 2500 to 3500 J/kg range.  This -- combined

with the presence of a veering/southwesterly low-level jet, will

likely sustain ongoing convection well into the overnight hours,

accompanied locally by an all-hazards severe risk.
