Tornado Warning

I'm going to go ahead and start typing up here in case I need to post updates. Will post radar images above as soon as the polygons update. We've got a couple polygons expiring on time. And all the focus needs to go onto this new warning polygon that affects Southeastern Madison, Southern Jackson, and Central Dekalb Counties in Northeast Alabama.

8 PM - I got tired of waiting for the polygons to update on radar and just posted it above. Anywhere in that Tornado Warning, this new one I posted, get to shelter and stay there. This night is not over. And night has fallen. You can't afford to wait on a confirmation of a tornado on a night like this. We've seen some bad damage earlier in Madison County from a tornado.

8:02 - And actually now the 911 Center has confirmed this tornado, believe it is the Madison one.

8:04 - Getting a hook echo now too. Grant, Aspel, Langston, Stevenson (even Scottsboro although it's a close call up that way - shelter to be safe, in the polygon), Pigsah, Henagar, Rosalie, Sylvania - anywhere close to those communities in this polygon, get to your tornado shelter and stay there.

8:07 - And now we have a new Tornado Warning for a storm near Redstone Arsenal.

8:09 - So this is South of the city of Huntsville per se, but it's kind of a close call. And we are back to having two Tornado Warnings. Anywhere in these polygons, get to shelter and stay there until you are sure the danger has passed. This is a busy evening, and we just have to play it safe until this is all over.

I think I forgot to mention Rainsville earlier, but they are on the Southern fringe of this Easternmost polygon. People there need to shelter, and I think they will. They have quite a history of tornadoes in that area. And a lot of times I feel like Dekalb County gets overlooked by some media sources. They get the tail end of a lot of our severe weather. And a lot of it is rural. But people live there, and especially at night, they need to know as much as anybody else does. Even out in the country, it's hard to see tornadoes around here, but especially at night.

8:13 PM - Back to the West, we have Severe Thunderstorm Warnings affecting places like Russelville, Hamilton, and Hartselle. While those are not as serious as tornadoes, they are still dangerous storms. And I hope people will get to a good safe place for those too.

I started to say these storms far West are part of a squall line, but it's a broken squall line that is still in the process of forming. If the storms are not quite as intense as earlier, it's maybe because of some rain-cooling and loss of daytime heat but also could be because the storms are not quite as isolated as these that really fired up in Limestone/Madison Counties and then tracked into Jackson and Dekalb Counties.

8:18 - Tornado warnings continue for Southeastern Madison, Southern Jackson, and Dekalb Counties. Anywhere in these polygons, I'd stay sheltered for now. It has become a situation where multiple circulations can come and go. And it's night now. There is no sense in waiting to confirm a tornado at night. If radar is showing it, on a volatile night like we've had, the right thing to do is go ahead and take shelter. Better safe than sorry for sure tonight.

8:22 - And a note from SPC, this is in the zone where the severe threat remains maximized for the next hour or two at least. Though the worst of this round is moving into Georgia and Eastern Tennessee soon.

We will still have to watch the storms in Northwest Alabama, West of I-65. Even though they are trying to form a squall line, those storms can still be dangerous. And we have to play it safe tonight.

8:24 - Emergency management has confirmed a tornado near Section!

SOURCE...Emergency management confirmed tornado.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without

shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage

to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree damage is

         likely.

This tornado will be near...

Rainsville, Henagar, Sylvania, and Powell around 830 PM CDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include

Dutton, Langston, Paint Rock, and Pine Ridge.

That is directly from the text of the latest severe weather statement.

8:27 - Here's a look at that one.

Actually no there's not. I believe the Hytop radar has gone down from the storms.

8:30 - The radar quality is not going to look great since having to use Birmingham (Shelby County Airport) source. But we have three tornado polygons now. And in any of them, you need to be in shelter until you are sure these storms have passed. These storms have meant business tonight.

8:32 - Ok now we are down to two. And one of them is moving across the Georgia line. So we'll focus on the one where they had a confirmation of a tornado near Section a little while ago.

Got a severe thunderstorm warning Cullman County so making new post.
