In addition to this possible tornado, where the signature has been coming and going (velocity couplet), we have Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Marion, and Lamar Counties as this squall line moves into Northwest Alabama. And these areas are also zones of danger. The straight-line winds tonight could bring down trees and power lines, maybe even do some structural damage in some cases. I would respect both threats - damaging thunderstorm winds or tornado. Even if tornado is scarier and gets people's attention a lot easier. The tornadoes that form in squall lines tend to happen fast - spin up quick, dissipate within a few minutes usually. So of course I'd pay attention to those, but also pay attention to the fact that the damaging winds are dangerous. And it might be better to get to a safe place for those, before you see a tornado warning polygon near you.
10:56 - Hackleburg and Bear Creek are in this Tornado Warning polygon, warning continues until 11:30 PM CDT. You may see the rotation on radar come and go, but it's important to continue to treat the storm seriously, since the entire counties are under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. And tornadoes can spin up very quickly in an environment like this. If you are under a severe thunderstorm warning, it's better tonight to go ahead and go to a safe place, not wait for it to be upgraded to a tornado warning.
Got a new Tornado Warning, new post coming. Is for Franklin County North of this one.
